Ethics Policy

PK Forefront’s ethical code is based on the willingness of its contributors to be accurate, fair, and complete—and act with honesty and transparency.

  • Truth and Accuracy

PK Forefront strives to be an accurate and objective source of information. We get our facts straight by basing them on verifiable sources, such as news reports or the people involved in stories we're covering.

  • Independence

PK Forefront's independence is paramount; we do not act, formally or informally, on behalf of special interests. We also independently fact-check our work before publishing it.

  • Fairness and Impartiality

Most stories have 2 sides. No obligation to include all sides in every piece, but if the context is missing it becomes harder for readers to trust the reporter.

  • Humanity

PK Forefront is cognizant of the impact that its words and images can have on others' lives. Although it publishes or broadcasts offensive material, PK Forefront respects private individuals’ right to privacy—and recognizes their need for protection against unwarranted intrusions into their personal affairs.

The Society of Professional Journalists' code of ethics offers the following advice, which is representative of the practical ideas of PK Forefront. Quoting directly:

  • Show compassion for those who may be affected adversely by news coverage. Use special sensitivity when dealing with children and inexperienced sources or subjects.

  • Be sensitive when seeking or using interviews or photographs of those affected by tragedy or grief.

  • Recognize that gathering and reporting information may cause harm or discomfort. Pursuit of the news is not a license for arrogance.

  • Recognize that private people have a greater right to control information about themselves than do public officials and others who seek power, influence, or attention. Only an overriding public need can justify intrusion into anyone's privacy.

  • Show good taste. Avoid pandering to lurid curiosity.

  • Be cautious about identifying juvenile suspects or victims of sex crimes.

  • Be judicious about naming criminal suspects before the formal filing of charges.

  • Balance a criminal suspect's fair trial rights with the public's right to be informed.
